January 2003 SURFERS 4 PEACE TO PRESENT MUSIC “PUNK ROCK FOR RECOVERY” BENEFIT FOR TERRORIST BOMBING VICTIM, LINEUP INCLUDES PENNYWISE, U.S. BOMBS, SHATTERED FAITH, D.I., OTHERS. Huntington Beach CA: On Saturday, February. 8th, 2003 from 6-11:30 pm PST, the Grove theatre in Anaheim will host a benefit concert sponsored by Surfers 4 Peace, Volcom Clothing, Team Goon clothing/ skateboard supply and Finger Records to help offset the medical expenses of El Centro singer Steve Cabler, and to help establish a new organization for aiding and assisting those in need in the surfing, skate, snowboarding and music communities. Tickets will be available Saturday January 18th 2003 and can be purchased in advance through ticket master; the cost at the door is $27.50 Over nine bands will come to the aid of a fellow musician injured by a terrorist attack (Oct 16, Bali, Indonesia). EL NADA SHATTERED FAITH SURPISE APPEARANCE U.S. BOMBS PENNYWISE THE ROLE MODELS On October 16th, 2002, a terrorist act occurred at two nightclubs in Bali Indonesia, where over 180 persons perished. Among the dead were Cabler’s long time friend and former El Centro manager Steven “Webbie” Webster of Newport Beach CA. Cabler survived the initial blast, but sustained significant injuries, which has resulted in mounting medical costs. One of the groups scheduled to perform will be El Centro, where Cabler is the lead singer, however it has not yet been determined whether Cabler’s injuries will allow him to perform. Finger Records’ owner Mel Shantz is also sponsoring the event. “It’s basically about musicians helping musicians and the scene helping those that are in need. The CD is titled, "We Need A Hill" and is the follow up to their critically acclaimed CD "Academic." The Secession Movement will be on tour in the Eastern U.S. and Canada through the spring, followed by a European stint in the fall. ORANGE PEAL RECORDS recently signed a new non-exclusive distribution agreement with Synergy distribution nationwide. They will distribute all orange peal catalog that Orange Peal records hands them. Exit Sloppy Meateaters, Enter Under the Weather, Sloppy Meateaters, after a nice four-year run and countless days of touring and two CDs has called it quits. The band had an amicable split from Drummer Kevin Highfield in December of 2002. From the ashes of SME comes the new band Under the Weather, which is Josh Chambers, John Elwell formerly from SME, and Will Tallman, formerly from the band Padlock. The band recently finished the recording of their self-titled debut CD and is getting ready for the road with The Berlin Project and Madcap on the East Coast. Speaking of The Berlin Project, the band is gearing up to start recording their 4th CD at Mr. Small's funhouse in Pittsburgh PA on February 7th after having a successful warped tour 2002 experience. New Releases for Orange Peal include the band A Week in July, which will be releasing their CD, titled Near Fatal Explosion on April 1st 2003. MILKTREE RECORDS: Milktree Records is a subsidiary of Orange Peal records and is geared to promoting and nurturing bands barely starting out on their own in order to help guide them to promote their debut releases. The bands on the label include No Direction, and Academy. Both are in the punk pop/ indie rock vein. Academy is currently in the studio this week recording their debut CD. No Direction will have their CD title "Staring at the Ground" released in March 2003. RIC SANDLER ON TOP 40 RADIO: After having a very successful run at radio on the song "Rubies," Ric is gearing up for a national tour after returning back from Cannes France to promote his release "Rhythmunderground." The CD has been getting favorable attention from many radio stations and reached top 40 on the R&R AC charts, up from #60 two weeks ago. The song Rubies also reached #18 on the FMQB Hot AC 200 with well over 1500 spins a week on average. Press is catching on to his variable style with intelligent reviews coming in constantly. KEEP SAFE RECORDS Seccession Movement new CD out April tour in the works The CD is titled "We Need a Hill" and is in the indie rock category. Their last CD "Academic" received critical acclaim by numerous periodicals on the national and regional level. The band will begin touring in April at the time of the release. COMMUNITY MUSICIAN: Black Dynasty East Bay Gangster Rap artist Kariem is getting a lot of attention as being one of the premiere rappers in the Deep East Oakland area. Most of the better known rappers are known to come to the East Bay to pick up new terms from friends like e-40 and Black Dynasty. In 1996 Black Dynasty released their debut CD which sold in excess of 30,000 with it's strong overtones and critical lyrical content describing life in Deep East Oakland. Black Dynasty is now on the verge of releasing his own material in March 2003. Advance CDs are available now for review. KELLEE BRADLEY has just been nominated by Just Plain Folks for three awards and getting ready to promote her latest CD "I Talk to the Stars" in February with a Northwest tour.
