Music entertainment PR is where Maelstrom Public Relations began. What started as a hobby in 1994 grew from a desire to help upcoming bands and independent record labels reach their goals and objectives while working within the realities of their budgets.
At the time, Curtis Smith was working in production studios, recording studios, record labels and public relations firms. Through those experiences, he saw firsthand how difficult it could be for independent artists and smaller labels to get the attention of the media and music industry.
The idea was simple: help artists and labels move closer to their goals without losing sight of their circumstances, budgets or dreams.
Technology has changed dramatically. The music business has changed. The media landscape has changed. Communication is faster, audiences are more connected, and artists are expected to maintain a presence across more platforms than ever before.
But one thing has not changed: artists still have dreams.
We combine decades of traditional music publicity experience with today's technology and media environment. We work with artists, bands, labels and entertainment projects to develop publicity strategies designed to generate positive media attention and build awareness.
We look at both the short-term and long-term objectives of every project. From podcasts to television, from the smallest online publication to the most prominent glossy magazine, every legitimate media opportunity has value when it reaches the right audience.
Modern publicity also requires an understanding of social media and digital communication. We help artists develop strategies for using these platforms as part of their overall promotional efforts, strengthening the relationship between an artist and its current and future fanbase.
Tell a compelling story. Reach the right people. Build relationships. Create opportunities. Be professional. Follow through.
That is what Maelstrom Music PR has been built around since 1994.
